Chandigarh is unusually kind to a dog. Sectors are walkable, green space is designed in rather than left over, and most homes have ground-floor access. A dog raised here gets more outdoor time than the same dog would in a denser city, and it shows in temperament.
Do not over-exercise a young dog just because the space is there
This is the local mistake. The green belt invites long walks, and a growing dog will happily do them. Growing joints set the limit, not the distance you can manage. Two moderate walks a day is right for most breeds until the skeleton has matured.
Recall before off-lead
Open ground tempts people to let a dog off early. Off-lead time should wait until recall is genuinely reliable in a distracting place, not just in the garden. A dog that returns when called can use this city properly; one that does not will spend its life on a lead.
Vary the route
The sector layout makes variety easy, and a dog walked the same way every day gets bored. A bored dog finds its own entertainment at home.
After the walk
Check ears and paws. Grass seeds and ticks are the two common finds from the green belt, and both are trivial caught early.
