Availability here is steady rather than high-volume. A aloof large breed is a considered purchase, and we would rather answer questions properly than hurry a placement.
Winter and summer, both real
Plan for two seasons rather than one. Summer means early walks and constant water for a large breed; winter means warmth at night and slightly more food. winters get genuinely cold, so warmth and joint care take priority Owners who anticipate both rarely have trouble with either.
Grooming and seasonal coat care
Check ears and paws after walks through the green belt - grass seeds and ticks are the two common finds, and both are trivial caught early. For a large dog this takes a couple of minutes and prevents most of what we get asked about.
Health documentation
Each Afghan Hound Puppy is health-checked before it is listed, and leaves with its vaccination and deworming record. Read it at handover rather than later - the booster schedule for the coming year runs from those dates.
The Afghan Hound Puppy in a planned city
Households in Rishikesh tend to have gardens or shared green within a short walk, which suits a Afghan Hound Puppy well. The breed does not need a large plot - it needs somewhere consistent to be taken twice a day, and this city provides that.
Exercise and the green belt
Vary the route. A large dog walked the same way daily gets bored, and a bored Afghan Hound Puppy finds its own entertainment at home. The sector layout makes variety easy, which is a small advantage worth using.

From ₹78,000, most placements falling between ₹78,000 and ₹135,500. The figure reflects lineage, age at handover and the health work already completed, and we are happy to explain any of those rather than simply quote a number.
Records and aftercare
Expect original records, dated and signed by the attending vet. For a large dog we also note the expected adult size, since a size category alone tells you little about the Afghan Hound Puppy in front of you.
Raising a Afghan Hound in Rishikesh: local climate
Rishikesh is hottest in May, averaging 40°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from May to June. A Afghan Hound needs real protection from that because a large body sheds heat slowly: walks before 8 am and after 7 pm, a cool tiled floor or a cooler in the afternoons, fresh water in more than one place, and never a parked car.
Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 8°C.
The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Check for ticks after every walk; dry inside the ears after baths and rain, since droopy ears trap moisture.
For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are October to March: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 20 | 24 | 30 | 36 | 40 | 40 | 34 | 32 | 31 | 29 | 25 | 21 |
| Low °C | 8 | 11 | 16 | 21 | 26 | 28 | 26 | 25 | 23 | 18 | 14 | 10 |
| Rain mm | 32 | 43 | 33 | 26 | 41 | 161 | 374 | 357 | 179 | 18 | 5 | 11 |
Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.

Care Tips for Afghan Hound Puppy
Seasonal care for a large dog in Rishikesh.
- Exercise: two walks daily; vary the route, the sector layout makes that easy.
- Joints: do not over-exercise a young Afghan Hound Puppy just because the space is there.
- Recall: off-lead only once it is genuinely reliable, however open the ground looks.
- Skin: over-bathing in winter dries it out. Brushing beats washing here.
- Records: kept with your own documents, for the next vet who asks.
