We place the Afghan Hound Puppy across Handwara and the surrounding Jammu and Kashmir region. Each dog is health-checked before listing, and you are welcome to ask about lineage and age before committing to anything.
Price and what sits behind it
A Afghan Hound Puppy starts from ₹78,000 here. The figure reflects lineage, age at handover and the health work already completed. We are happy to explain any of those rather than simply quote a number.
Winter and summer, both real
Plan for two seasons rather than one. Summer means early walks and constant water for a large breed; winter means warmth at night and slightly more food. the plateau climate is relatively moderate, which suits a wide range of breeds Owners who anticipate both rarely have trouble with either.
The Afghan Hound Puppy in a planned city
Households in Handwara tend to have gardens or shared green within a short walk, which suits a Afghan Hound Puppy well. The breed does not need a large plot - it needs somewhere consistent to be taken twice a day, and this city provides that.
Grooming and seasonal coat care
Coat work here is seasonal rather than constant. A Afghan Hound Puppy will shed heavily as the weather turns, twice a year, and brushing through those weeks saves both the coat and your furnishings. Between times a weekly check is enough.
Exercise and the green belt
Vary the route. A large dog walked the same way daily gets bored, and a bored Afghan Hound Puppy finds its own entertainment at home. The sector layout makes variety easy, which is a small advantage worth using.

Raising a Afghan Hound in Handwara: local climate
The city sits at about 1,606 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.
Summer here peaks in July at about 32°C. That is manageable for a Afghan Hound, but watch it closely because a large body sheds heat slowly: keep activity to the cooler ends of the day and a shaded, ventilated spot indoors.
Winter nights drop to about -2°C in January. A Afghan Hound copes well with cold, but a puppy still needs a warm, draught-free bed for its first winter.
There is no long rainy season; what rain there is falls mostly in February.
For a new Afghan Hound puppy, the easiest months to arrive are April to October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 9 | 10 | 15 | 22 | 27 | 31 | 32 | 30 | 28 | 23 | 17 | 12 |
| Low °C | -2 | 0 | 4 | 9 | 14 | 18 | 19 | 18 | 15 | 9 | 5 | 1 |
| Rain mm | 66 | 108 | 105 | 102 | 58 | 63 | 79 | 84 | 44 | 24 | 38 | 31 |
Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.
