Raising a Bombay in Nainital: local climate
The city sits at about 2,077 m above sea level, so it runs cooler than the plains around it.
Summers here are mild, peaking at about 28°C in May, so heat is rarely the problem for a Bombay that it is on the plains.
Winter nights drop to about -2°C in January. A Bombay copes well with cold, but a puppy still needs a warm, draught-free bed for its first winter.
The rainy season runs from June to September, and July is usually the wettest month. Dry the coat right down to the skin after it gets wet, or it can develop skin infections.
For a new Bombay kitten, the easiest months to arrive are April, May and October: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 11 | 14 | 19 | 25 | 28 | 28 | 23 | 21 | 20 | 18 | 15 | 12 |
| Low °C | -2 | 0 | 4 | 10 | 14 | 16 | 15 | 14 | 12 | 8 | 3 | 0 |

Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.
